5 Secrets for Cleaning Your Bathroom

Let’s face it – cleaning a bathroom doesn’t rank high on anyone’s list of fun ways to spend a weekend. There are a few bathroom cleaning tips that you can follow, however, to make the job a bit less tedious and time consuming.

Here are a few bathroom cleaning tips that will leave your space sparkling clean and germ-free.

1. Shower scrubbing

Cleaning soap scum off a shower stall without soaking yourself in the process is always a trick. This task becomes a breeze with a fillable scrubber dish wand. Simply fill it with ½ vinegar and ½ dish soap and it will cut through the scum, leave your walls sparkling clean and you dry in the process.

When selecting caulk for your shower, look for DAP products that feature built-in Microban protection to inhibit the growth of stain-causing mold and mildew on the caulk, keeping it cleaner between cleanings and making it easier to clean.

2. Cleaning mirrors

Another useful cleaning tip? Rub shaving cream onto your bathroom mirror with a paper towel, then wet the paper towel and wipe the cream off. Not only will this clean your mirror but it will be sweet-smelling, and fog-free for a week.

3. Removing hard water stains

Not only do I hate using harsh chemicals to clean stains in the toilet bowl but they simply don’t work that well. A better bet is a pumice stone, the kind you use on your feet. It needs to be a fairly hard stone and wet it a bit before you use it. Then simply scrub the stains away. Be careful, however, not to use this solution too often as it could, over time, remove the finish inside the bowl.

4. Eliminating mineral deposits around fixtures

Once again, no harsh chemicals required and no hard work! Soak a clean rag in white vinegar until it’s completely wet. Then wrap the towel around the faucet and let sit for an hour. Add more vinegar on the towel if it seems to be getting dry. Remove the towel and clean with a sponge.

5. Keeping the toilet bowl brush clean

Probably the grossest item in the bathroom, your toilet bowl brush needs a regular cleaning. Start by pouring white vinegar over the bristles as you hold it over the toilet bowl. This is a great way of doing double duty – cleaning and disinfecting the brush and the toilet bowl as well. Follow this up with a good shake of baking powder on the brush to deodorize and whiten yellow bristles. Rinse it in the toilet bowl and then place the handle between the toilet seat and the toilet so the brush hangs over the bowl to thoroughly dry.

You can also look for cleaning products, including toilet bowl brushes and sponges made by Quickie. These products include built-in protection against the growth of bacteria, mold and mildew that causes those unpleasant odors – that can linger in your bathroom.

And if all else fails and your bathroom and shower just need a complete overhaul, Luxury Bath Technologies has a bath and shower replacement system that won’t take forever and won’t break the bank. Plus, you get the added benefit of built-in antimicrobial protection in your shower!
